Staff Accountant Pawling Corporation | Presray Corporation Wassaic, NY Full-Time |
On-Site Salary:
$52,000-$62,000 per year About the Position Pawling Corporation and Presray Corporation are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team in Wassaic, New York. This is a hands-on accounting position focused on supporting the day-to-day financial operations of our businesses. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Controller on general ledger activities, account reconciliations, accounts receivable, cash application, sales tax, fixed assets, payroll auditing, month-end support, audit preparation, and other recurring accounting responsibilities. We are looking for someone who enjoys working within the details, researching discrepancies, maintaining accurate records, and developing a broad understanding of accounting operations. As the successful candidate develops knowledge of our businesses and accounting processes, the position will cross-train in additional accounting functions to provide backup coverage, support continuity within the Accounting Department, and take on additional responsibilities as proficiency develops. This position supports the financial reporting process but does not have primary responsibility for preparing the Company's financial statements. Key Responsibilities Prepare assigned journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and recurring accounting entries. Perform general ledger and balance sheet account reconciliations. Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for assigned accounts. Research discrepancies, unusual transactions, and reconciling items. Assist the Controller with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities. Apply customer cash receipts and reconcile customer accounts. Review accounts receivable aging and assist with collection of past-due balances. Research payment discrepancies, deductions, credits, offsets, and account adjustments. Assist with customer credit holds within established company guidelines and escalate higher-risk matters to the Controller. Prepare recurring sales tax returns and supporting schedules. Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, additions, disposals, and reconciliations. Perform weekly payroll audits and payroll-related reconciliations. Review and reconcile commission activity. Assist with inventory-related reconciliations, cycle counts, physical inventory, and cost-accounting support. Assist with project and job-cost accounting activities for Presray. Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for financial, tax, and other audits. Maintain accurate information within company accounting and ERP systems. Use Microsoft Excel to prepare reconciliations, schedules, reports, and accounting analyses. Cross-train on key accounting processes to provide backup coverage within the Accounting Department. Develop and maintain written procedures and process documentation for assigned accounting responsibilities. Assist with special accounting projects and take on additional responsibilities as knowledge and proficiency develop. Qualifications Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant education and accounting experience will also be considered. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is a plus, but not required . Minimum of two years of relevant accounting experience preferred. Working knowledge of general accounting concepts and practices. Experience with account reconciliations, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, or similar accounting responsibilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets. Experience using accounting software, ERP systems, or similar business systems. Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to research discrepancies and follow issues through to resolution. Ability to organize work, manage priorities, and meet recurring deadlines. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Controller, Accounting team, and other departments. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to appropriately handle confidential financial and business information. Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following areas is helpful but not required: Manufacturing accounting Month-end or year-end close Journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations Accounts receivable, credit, or collections Sales tax preparation Fixed asset accounting Payroll reconciliation Inventory or cost accounting Project or job-cost accounting Multi-company or multi-division accounting Friedman, Shoptech, Global, or similar ERP/accounting systems Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site position at our Wassaic, New York facility. The majority of the work is performed in a professional office environment located within a manufacturing facility. Occasional presence in manufacturing, warehouse, or inventory areas may be required in connection with inventory, costing, audits, or account research. Compensation The anticipated salary range for this position is $52,000-$62,000 annually , depending on relevant accounting experience, education, technical skills, and overall qualifications.
