About the Role Robert Half is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Part-Time Staff Accountant for a contract opportunity with a nonprofit organization in Westbrook, Connecticut. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys supporting mission-driven organizations and is looking for a flexible, part-time role. The Part-Time Staff Accountant will assist with day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end activities while helping ensure the organization's financial records remain accurate and compliant. Responsibilities Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed Assist with grant tracking and expense reporting Support budget preparation and financial reporting processes Prepare account analyses and reconcile discrepancies Generate financial reports using accounting software and Microsoft Excel Assist with audit preparation and other special accounting projects Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and account reconciliations Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities Strong verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications Previous nonprofit accounting experience Familiarity with grant accounting and fund accounting principles Experience supporting audits and financial statement preparation Knowledge of nonprofit financial reporting requirements Schedule Part-time schedule, approximately 20-25 hours per week Flexible weekday hours Contract assignment with potential for extension based on organizational needs Why Work with Robert Half?
