The Senior Tax Accountant will be employed by C.W. Matthews and work from its Marietta headquarters; however, this individual's primary responsibility will be serving the personal tax and financial needs of the Matthews and Burton families. The right person will have the opportunity to expand into private investment accounting, financial reporting, family office strategy, process development, and eventually leadership of a growing family office infrastructure. For an accomplished CPA who enjoys tax but wants greater ownership, variety, relationships, and longer-term runway than a traditional public accounting career may provide, this is a unique opportunity to build something. The Senior Tax Accountant will become the family's primary in-house tax expert and will inherit an established body of historical returns. This individual will be able to go deep with one family, understand the full picture across generations and entities, and become a trusted long-term advisor.POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
? Own tax compliance and planning for 11 family units across multiple generations. ? Prepare and manage individual, trust, LLC, partnership, and foundation tax returns, including quarterly estimates and year-end planning. ? Serve as the family's primary in-house tax resource, identifying planning opportunities and proactively surfacing issues. ? Take ownership of approximately 45 trust entities, ranging from dormant trusts to highly active structures. ? Support accounting and reporting for private investments, including capital calls, distributions, valuations, commitments, and K-1 activity. ? Maintain and improve accounting for family entities, foundations, inter-family loans, and shared assets. ? Build and improve the family office's systems, processes, reporting, and dashboards.SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED
? CPA license required. ? Strong foundation in individual and high-net-worth tax, with meaningful experience handling complex returns. ? Experience with trust and fiduciary taxation; multi-generational family or private-client work is highly preferred. ? 8-10+ years of progressive tax/accounting experience required. ? Public accounting background preferred, particularly from a regional, boutique, private-client, family wealth, trust, or estate practice. ?Strong executive function:
able to prioritize, make decisions, manage complexity, and operate without needing constant direction. ? Excellent communication skills and the maturity to work directly with multiple family members and advisors. ? Highly proactive; someone who identifies issues, recommends solutions, and communicates early rather than simply processing work. ? Strong judgment, discretion, and confidentiality given the highly sensitive nature of the family's financial information. ?Builder mentality:
comfortable improving processes, evaluating systems and working creatively to develop practical solutions.ABOUT C.W. MATTHEWS
