Job Description

Job Overview An established consumer-products company located in Arlington Heights, Illinois, is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position will support full-cycle accounting, general-ledger activities, month-end close, account reconciliations, inventory accounting, sales-tax compliance, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable working with financial information from multiple systems. This position requires the ability to investigate discrepancies, maintain complete supporting documentation, meet reporting deadlines, and help improve accounting processes and internal controls. Key Responsibilities Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and other month-end adjustments Assist with monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end closing activities Prepare bank reconciliations and reconcile credit-card, merchant-processing, and other cash-related accounts Reconcile balance-sheet and general-ledger accounts and investigate outstanding or unusual items Support accounts receivable and accounts payable activities, including customer payments, vendor invoices, credit memos, and account applications Reconcile sales, fees, refunds, customer payments, and settlements from e-commerce and payment-processing platforms Assist with inventory accounting, including inventory reconciliations, cost-of-goods-sold analysis, and inventory adjustments Prepare sales-tax reconciliations and assist with accurate and timely state and local sales-tax filings Review accounting transactions for accuracy, completeness, appropriate classification, and adequate supporting documentation Maintain organized workpapers, reconciliation schedules, and audit-ready financial records Assist with financial reporting, account analysis, cash-flow reporting, and other management requests Support annual financial audits by preparing schedules and responding to documentation requests Collaborate with accounting, sales, logistics, customer service, and other departments to resolve transaction discrepancies Identify process weaknesses and recommend practical improvements to accounting workflows and internal controls Perform other accounting and financial-analysis responsibilities as assigned by the Controller Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred At least three years of progressive accounting experience, including general-ledger accounting and month-end close Strong working knowledge of GAAP and double-entry accounting Demonstrated experience preparing journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance-sheet reconciliations, and account analyses Experience with inventory accounting, sales-tax compliance, e-commerce settlements, or multi-state operations is highly desirable Experience using SAP or another ERP accounting system is preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and the reconciliation of large datasets Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to research and resolve discrepancies Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate, properly supported financial records Ability to organize competing priorities and meet recurring month-end and reporting deadlines Clear written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Controller and other departments Position Details Job type: Full-time Work location: Arlington Heights, Illinois Work arrangement:
