Job Description

Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Treasurer to oversee our organization's financial health. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing financial operations including budgeting, accounting, revenue collection, debt management and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance. This role requires a strong understanding of financial principles and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively. Responsibilities Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and GASB standards. Maintain a general accounting system of all financial activities and oversee maintenance of financial records for each department. Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency. Prepare regulatory reporting and ensure adherence to governmental accounting standards. Collaborate with internal teams to provide insights on financial concepts that drive decision-making. Prepare payroll tax returns including IRS Forms 941, W2, 1099 and Illinois 941 and IDES filings. Prepare operating budget, appropriation and tax levy ordinances and capital improvement budget. Attendance at Board of Trustees meetings held twice a month and special meetings as requested. Assist auditors during annual audit of finance records, prepare annual Treasurer's Report, annual TIF reports and other filings as required by the State and County. Skills Strong knowledge of governmental accounting standards, budgetary systems and financial reporting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. Excellent and highly accurate math and accounting skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions. Ability to maintain confidential information; work independently; follow instructions; and communicate clearly and concisely. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and specialized accounting software used by the Village of Thornton. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
