DUTIES:
The City Controller's Office is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to join our team. This position is responsible for managing financial transactions, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, a keen eye for accuracy, and the ability to work independently while contributing to the organization's financial objectives. Responsibilities may vary based on assignment and include: Processes accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate transactions. Maintains financial records, including ledgers, reconciliations, and financial statements. Prepares and analyzes financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to support decision-making. Supports payroll by processing employee documentation. Ensures compliance with tax regulations, financial reporting standards, and internal controls. Assists with financial audits by providing necessary documentation and reports. Monitors cash flow, expenses, and budget variances to optimize financial performance. Collaborates with other departments to improve financial processes and efficiency. Stays informed on accounting regulations, best practices, and industry trends.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred; Associate degree combined with relevant work experience is also acceptable. Proven experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial analysis. Familiarity with GASB and GAAP practices, general accounting procedures, and internal controls. Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and Office 365. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with keen attention to detail. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
