ABOUT THE CARSON CENTER
The Carson Center for the Performing Arts, also known as The Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center, is a regional, multiple-use facility with beautiful spaces for public and private events of all types. Enjoy superb staging and near-perfect acoustics for a wide range of entertainment, cultural, and educational programming. The mission of The Carson Center for the Performing Arts is to serve the Four Rivers region as a leader in presenting exceptional live performances and cultural experiences that are both entertaining and educational, while also being economically beneficial to our community. The Carson Center is located in downtown Paducah, Kentucky, and overlooks the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers. It is a significant component of Paducah's downtown area revitalization and serves a diverse population from a four-state region and beyond. The Carson Center is a not-for-profit organization (501(c)(3).
THE ROLE IN A NUTSHELL
The Staff Accountant/Office Manager supports the financial accuracy, compliance, and operational effectiveness of The Carson Center. This position maintains detailed financial records and reports, helps track organizational performance, and provides reliable financial information for business decision-making. The role also manages core office operations and helps maintain a well-organized, well-supplied work environment for administrative staff. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant/Office Manager works across the organization to support accounting, payroll, budgeting, internal controls, personnel administration, vendor documentation, and general office management. This is a full-time, on-site, nonexempt position requiring strong attention to detail, analytical judgment, organization, confidentiality, and the ability to solve problems while managing competing priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare and analyze financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Reconciliations:
Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist with budgeting, financial forecasts, and projections by providing timely financial data and analysis.
Variance Analysis:
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
Expense Management:
Monitor expenses, manage employee and business expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Accounting Compliance:
Apply accounting principles and demonstrate a working understanding of GAAP, FASB, and nonprofit fund accounting.
Payroll and Filings:
Prepare and process payroll and periodic reports, including annual W-2, W-3, and 1099 series filings.
Internal Controls:
Maintain internal controls and accounting systems that support accuracy, compliance, and fraud prevention.
Personnel Administration:
Assist with new personnel onboarding and benefit management.
Records Management:
Maintain organized files and filing standards for personnel, vendors, and administrative documents.
Office Operations:
Manage office operations, mail management, including inventory control, reception support, and maintaining a well-organized and supplied administrative work environment. Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TABLE
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
Financial Acumen:
Strong understanding of accounting principles, with nonprofit fund accounting experience a plus.
Analytical Ability:
Strong analytical, mathematical, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Organization:
Process-oriented, highly organized, detail-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Collaboration:
Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as a team member.
Confidentiality:
Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling financial, personnel, payroll, and organizational information.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Facility Access:
Must be able to move throughout The Carson Center facility, including offices, performance spaces, backstage areas, and multiple floors.
Stationary Work:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
Communication:
Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through electronic communication with staff, artists, agents, and partners.
Event Environments:
Must be able to observe and assess activities in performance and event environments, including low-lighting and high-noise conditions typical of live events.
Materials:
Must be able to occasionally move or transport materials such as files or small equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
TECHNICAL AND SOFTWARE SKILLS
Microsoft 365: Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including SharePoint.
Accounting Systems:
Proficiency with QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop.
Excel:
Proficiency using Excel for analysis and report creation.
Additional Software:
Knowledge of other accounting software is a plus.
Systems Experience:
Nonprofit fund accounting experience is a plus; familiarity with CRM and ticketing software such as Tessitura is also a plus.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation:
This is a full-time non-exempt position with a salary of $39,500.
Benefits:
Eligibility begins after 90 days. 401(k) Safe Harbor plan with a 3% contribution; no employee match required. Health insurance with 90% of the employee premium paid by The Carson Center. Eligible to participate in dental insurance, vision insurance, Flexible Spending Account, and Roth 401(k).
