Corporate Tax Staff Accountant
Job Description
Key ResponsibilitiesSales & Use TaxPrepare, review, and file multi-state sales and use tax returns utilizing Avalara.
Monitor taxability of products and services across multiple jurisdictions.
Reconcile sales tax payable accounts and investigate discrepancies.
Ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations.
Assist with sales tax audits and respond to notices from taxing authorities.
Maintain exemption certificates and customer tax documentation.
Research tax laws and regulations and implement necessary compliance updates.
Generate and analyze sales tax reports for management review.
Accounts PayableProcess vendor invoices and ensure proper coding to the general ledger.
Review and reconcile vendor statements.
Prepare and process weekly check runs, ACH, and wire payments.
Research and resolve invoice and payment discrepancies.
Maintain vendor records and support 1099 reporting requirements.
General AccountingPerform monthly bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations.
Prepare and post journal entries.
Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
Support internal and external audit requests.
Monitor and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
Administrative & CommunicationCommunicate with vendors, customers, and internal departments regarding tax, invoice, and payment inquiries.
Respond promptly to email correspondence and accounting-related requests.
Assist with process improvements and documentation of accounting procedures.
Support special projects and other accounting duties as assigned.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.2+ years of accounting experience, with sales and use tax experience strongly preferred.
Hands-on experience with Avalara required.
Knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax regulations.
Experience with accounts payable and account reconciliations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and data analysis.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
