Cook Job Description This role offers an opportunity for an experienced cook to join a highly motivated and energetic kitchen team within a collegiate dining environment in Morgantown, WV. You will work in a fast-paced, high-volume setting focused on scratch cooking, preparing and serving high-quality meals for students and campus guests. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about food, takes pride in quality and presentation, and is eager to grow professionally in a supportive hospitality setting. Responsibilities Prepare, cook, and plate food items according to established recipes, standards, and portion sizes. Maintain high standards of quality and portion control for all menu items. Execute food preparation tasks, including chopping, measuring, mixing, and cooking ingredients for service. Create visually appealing and creative food presentations that enhance the guest experience. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen by following cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures. Ensure all food is stored, labeled, and rotated properly in accordance with food safety guidelines. Follow safe food handling policies, procedures, and recipes at all times to ensure food safety and compliance. Operate and safely use various kitchen equipment and tools, ensuring proper care and handling. Identify and differentiate food items accurately to prevent cross-contamination and maintain quality. Collaborate with kitchen staff and front-of-house team members to support efficient service during busy periods. Deliver courteous and professional customer service when interacting with students, staff, and guests. Assist with receiving, organizing, and stocking food and supply deliveries as needed. Essential Skills At least one year of prior culinary experience in a quality, high-volume establishment with an emphasis on scratch cooking. Working knowledge of proper culinary methods, techniques, and standards. Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to safely and effectively use various kitchen equipment and tools. Ability to identify and differentiate food items accurately. Customer service experience with a customer service-oriented approach. Solid food preparation skills, including basic knife skills and mise en place. Strong organization skills to manage prep, cooking, and plating efficiently. Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and supervisors. Commitment to food safety and sanitation best practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications Food handler certification is preferred. Experience as a food service worker, line cook, tray line worker, or in food production is beneficial. Experience in hospitality or foodservice environments is an advantage. Ability to adapt to changing menus, service styles, and event needs within a collegiate setting. Demonstrated reliability and punctuality in previous roles. Willingness to learn new recipes, techniques, and standards as required. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based on the West Virginia University campus, working across various dining areas in the Evansdale, WV area. The environment is fast-paced and high-volume, typical of collegiate dining operations that serve students, faculty, staff, and guests throughout the day. You will work in a professional kitchen setting using a range of commercial kitchen equipment and tools, following strict food safety and sanitation standards. The role involves standing for extended periods, working around heat and kitchen noise, and coordinating with a team during busy service times such as meal rushes and campus events. The setting blends traditional dining hall service with event-based foodservice, offering exposure to different styles of production and service within a structured campus hospitality environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boxborough, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
