About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant, Client Accounting Services, with a strong background in government contracting and proven expertise in QuickBooks Online. In this role, you will directly support a major construction industry client, overseeing complex accounting functions and contributing to client success. This role requires independent ownership. You will not be trained on core accounting functions, QuickBooks Online workflows, or client communication basics. Candidates must have performed these responsibilities hands-on in prior roles.
Key Responsibilities Client Accounting Support:
Manage the complete accounting process for assigned clients, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with
U.S. GAAP.
Generate job cost reports, WIP (work-in-progress) schedules, and other industry-specific financial analyses. Support audit processes, including preparing schedules and required documentation. Ensure compliance with government contracting regulations, including indirect cost allocations, DCAA/FAR requirements, and contract billing.
Accounts Payable & Bill Pay Management:
Oversee accounts payable processes, including reviewing, coding, and processing vendor invoices. Utilize bill payment software (such as Bill.com, Melio, or similar platforms) to schedule, approve, and track electronic payments on behalf of clients. Reconcile payments, address discrepancies, and ensure timely and accurate disbursement of funds.
QuickBooks Online Management:
Maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot QuickBooks Online accounts, ensuring accurate and timely financial data for all assigned clients. Controller-Level Duties Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and the establishment of internal controls. Tax Preparation Support and participate in business and individual tax preparation, especially during tax season. Client Communication Act as a primary point of contact for client inquiries, providing expert guidance on accounting, compliance, and industry-specific matters.
Process Improvement:
Deliver proactive advice to clients on accounting, financial, and operational matters. Identify and implement process improvements for both clients and internal workflows.
Collaboration & Mentorship:
Mentor junior staff as needed. Collaborate across the firm to deliver exceptional, cohesive client service.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
Certification:
(CPA a plus, but not required)
Experience:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience Direct experience with government contracting accounting (required). Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (required). Experience with construction accounting (preferred, not required). Controller or advanced staff accountant experience. To be successful, you must already be able to: Run the month-end close without supervision. Clean up and correct inaccurate books in QBO. Communicate financials clearly to clients. Identify and fix accounting discrepancies independently. Technical Skills Advanced QuickBooks Online proficiency. Strong understanding of government contract compliance and regulations. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Power Skills Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Work Environment Remote with occasional in-person visits to the headquarters at our National Harbor, MD office.
