Skills:
Senior Accountant, SAP, GAAP, SOX, Journal Entries, CPA About the
Opportunity:
My client, one of the most established manufacturing companies in the greater Lansing region, is looking to hire a Senior Accountant. This is a hands-on ownership seat, not a processing role, where you will drive accuracy and compliance rather than execute tasks handed down from above. You will have direct visibility into how capital decisions get made at the leadership level, something most senior accountant seats never offer. The team you would be joining values technical depth over busywork, and this seat is built for someone who wants their SOX and GAAP expertise to actually shape how the company operates, not just check a compliance box. If you have been doing solid work in a controlled, audit-ready environment but feel like your input stops at the reconciliation, this is the kind of seat where that changes. This is a strategy-adjacent leadership role within accounting, not a transactional bookkeeping function, and it reports into a team that treats process improvement as core to the job, not an afterthought.
Responsibilities:
Own monthly and annual close activities, ensuring accuracy across reconciliations and reporting deliverables Partner directly with business leaders to validate capital decisions and influence how spend gets tracked and approved Build and refine dashboards and reporting tools that give leadership real visibility into financial trends Lead audit readiness efforts, preparing documentation and disclosures that hold up under both internal and external scrutiny Drive automation initiatives that cut manual effort and modernize legacy reporting processes Mentor and develop junior team members as a technical resource across the accounting function Design and strengthen internal controls, ensuring the team stays ahead of compliance requirements rather than reacting to them
Must-Have Skills:
Five or more years of progressive accounting experience in a SOX-controlled, audit-ready environment Strong working knowledge of SAP and US GAAP, including depreciation, capitalization, and impairment principles Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and data modeling
Nice-to-Have Skills:
CPA or CPA-eligible Experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools Exposure to multiple ERP systems beyond SAP
