Job Description
Position Summary:
The Junior Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the company. This position assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activities, account reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate accounting records.Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable Process vendor invoices and verify supporting documentation. Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation when applicable. Assist with vendor statement reconciliations. Research and resolve invoice discrepancies. Assist with weekly payment processing. Accounts Receivable Assist with customer account reconciliations. Research outstanding balances and payment discrepancies. Assist with collections and follow-up on past-due accounts. Support customer credit and account maintenance. General Accounting Prepare and post journal entries under the direction of the Accounting Manager. Perform bank, credit card, and general ledger account reconciliations. Maintain supporting documentation for accounting transactions. Assist with prepaid expenses, accruals, and fixed-asset schedules. Assist with inventory-related accounting activities. Investigate unusual or incorrect transactions and assist with corrections. Month-End Close Assist with monthly closing procedures. Prepare account reconciliations and supporting schedules. Assist with accruals and adjusting journal entries. Ensure transactions are recorded in the appropriate accounting period. Help identify discrepancies and provide supporting documentation for financial statements. Reporting & Analysis Assist in preparing monthly financial reports and management schedules. Prepare Excel reports and perform basic financial analysis. Maintain accounting spreadsheets and supporting schedules. Assist management with research and special accounting projects. Administrative & Compliance Maintain organized and accurate accounting files. Assist with audits by providing requested documentation. Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information. Follow company accounting policies and internal controls. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent accounting experience may be considered. 2-4 years of accounting experience preferred. Strong understanding of basic accounting principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Experience with an ERP/accounting system. Experience with inventory or distribution accounting. Experience in consumer goods, manufacturing, wholesale, or distribution environment. Experience with month-end close procedures. Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
