Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant with direct experience in law firm accounting to join our dynamic finance team. You will be responsible for managing complex trust and client accounts, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Responsibilities Manage law firm-specific accounting functions including trust accounts, client ledgers, and escrow transactions with precision and compliance. Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, reports, and schedules in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and legal industry standards. Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and client trust accounts regularly to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data. Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments, collections, and adherence to billing protocols. Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or PeopleSoft; perform journal entries and double-entry bookkeeping as needed. Conduct audits of financial data, prepare regulatory reports, and ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements specific to legal practices. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial management to support operational decision-making. Mentor junior staff or interns in accounting procedures, fostering a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement. Support special projects related to non-profit or governmental accounting if applicable within the legal context. Requirements Proven experience in law firm accounting or legal industry financial management is essential. Strong knowledge of GAAP, regulatory reporting standards, securities law, wills/trusts & estate law, and related legal financial concepts. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or similar platforms; familiarity with LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) or other specialized tax experience is a plus. Demonstrated expertise in technical accounting areas including accrual accounting, balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, journal entries, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. Experience with SOX compliance procedures within a legal or corporate environment. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently. Effective communication skills for preparing financial reports and collaborating across teams. Relevant certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent are preferred but not mandatory.
