Job Description:
The Senior Accountant supports the Controller's Office through responsibility for investment accounting, treasury activities, payroll accounting, financial compliance, reconciliation processes, and audit support. This position plays a leadership role in strengthening internal controls and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and University policies. Key Responsibilities General Accounting and Financial Reporting
  • Prepare and review monthly reconciliations and analyses for investment, treasury, payroll, and other general ledger accounts. Prepare journal entries and support month-end and year-end closing activities. Reconcile balance sheet, revenue, and expense accounts. Review financial transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance. Payroll Support
  • Coordinate accounting transactions with the Payroll Office. Review financial transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance. Provide payroll support during peak processing periods. Audit and Special Projects
  • Assist with annual financial statement audits and other compliance reviews. Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned. Endowment Support
  • Support endowment accounting, unitization calculations, and spending rate analyses. Internal Controls and Process Improvement
  • Evaluate financial controls and recommend enhancements to improve compliance and efficiency.
Conduct periodic reviews of accounting transactions and business processes. Assist in the development, implementation, and documentation of accounting policies and procedures. Support strategic financial initiatives as assigned. Provide backup support to payroll functions as necessary.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Minimum three years of accounting experience. Experience with investments, treasury management, payroll accounting, or financial reporting preferred. Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles. Knowledge of endowment accounting and investment reporting. Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Salary:
$65,000
  • The hiring salary above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law.
