Type:

full-time The Axel Group is seeking a Staff Accountant for our client's team. This organization operates within the architecture and planning industry. The role involves supporting various accounting, financial operations, billing, project accounting, payroll, benefits, and HR functions to ensure smooth financial and operational workflows.

Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash application, and general ledger reconciliations. Prepare client statements and complete bank account reconciliations. Support month-end close activities, such as journal entries and financial report preparation. Assist with maintaining and improving accounting processes and system workflows. Prepare and process monthly client invoices based on project contracts, including fixed-fee, hourly, and percentage-of-completion billing. Set up new projects within the accounting system and maintain accurate project and billing information. Track project budgets, consultant costs, reimbursable expenses, and other financial activity. Review labor and project costs, and prepare monthly labor allocation entries. Collaborate with Project Managers and leadership to ensure accurate and timely billing. Process accurate and timely semi-monthly payroll and support employee benefits administration. Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred. 2-5 years of accounting experience, preferably including billing, payroll, and project accounting. Experience in architecture, engineering, construction, consulting, or other professional services environments is a plus. Familiarity with Unanet or similar project-based accounting software highly preferred. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with payroll systems. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines. Effective communication and problem-solving skills. Collaborative, adaptable, and willing to take ownership of responsibilities with a desire to learn and grow.

Compensation:

Salary range up to $85,000 annually.
