This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to financial management, ensure regulatory compliance, and support organizational growth through accurate accounting practices. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in financial concepts, accounting software proficiency, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. As a vital member of our finance team, you will help maintain the integrity of our financial records while gaining valuable experience in both nonprofit and governmental accounting environments. Responsibilities Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Reconcile general ledger accounts and perform bank reconciliations to verify data integrity. Record journal entries using accounting software such as QuickBooks, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms, ensuring proper debits and credits. Assist with budgeting processes, forecast financial trends, and support financial analysis efforts to inform strategic decision-making. Conduct account analysis and balance sheet reconciliation to identify discrepancies or irregularities. Support regulatory compliance accounting requirements related to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and other applicable standards. Contribute to internal audits by preparing documentation, supporting audit procedures, and ensuring adherence to financial policies. Requirements Proven experience in accounting or finance roles with a strong understanding of financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and journal entries. Proficiency in financial software including QuickBooks, Quicken, PeopleSoft, or similar systems; advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite—especially Excel for data analysis using functions like VLOOKUP—and spreadsheet management. Knowledge of GAAP standards, regulatory compliance accounting (including SOX), and governmental or nonprofit accounting practices is highly desirable. Ability to perform detailed account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation accurately. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial reports and prepare clear financial report writing. Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail. Effective communication skills for mentoring team members and collaborating across departments.
