SQUYRES & CO. LLP
Senior Accountant - Public Accounting Tyler, Texas | Full-Time | Primarily In-Office | $70,000-$85,000 Are you an experienced accountant looking for more client responsibility, broader professional exposure, and greater opportunity to advance your career? Squyres & Co. LLP is seeking a Senior Accountant with approximately 2-5 years of accounting experience to join our Tyler office. Public accounting experience is preferred. This position is designed for an accountant who is ready for more than simply preparing returns or completing assigned workpapers. Our Senior Accountants work directly with clients, review the work of staff accountants, manage engagements, participate in tax planning and research, and work closely with the firm's partners. We are an established East Texas CPA firm serving a diverse range of businesses, organizations, and individuals. The position provides broad exposure to tax, assurance, accounting, and consulting matters without the narrow specialization or layers of management often associated with larger firms. What You'll Do
  • Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts and estates, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and research federal and state tax issues.
  • Participate in and manage audit, review, compilation, and other assurance and accounting engagements.
  • Review work prepared by staff accountants and provide appropriate feedback and training.

  • Communicate directly with clients regarding tax, accounting, assurance, and business matters.
  • Work with partners on complex client matters and consulting projects.
  • Assist in developing and mentoring less-experienced professional staff.
  • Manage multiple engagements, client expectations, and deadlines.
  • Assume increasing client-management and professional responsibilities as experience develops. Qualifications
  • Approximately 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience, with public accounting experience preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or sufficient college-level accounting coursework combined with appropriate accounting experience.
  • CPA certification or active progress toward CPA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience preparing business and individual income tax returns.
  • Audit and assurance experience or the ability and willingness to develop in this area.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
  • Strong technical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to review the work of others and communicate constructive feedback.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and confidently with clients. Candidates should identify other accounting, tax, audit, and financial software with which they are proficient. Why Squyres & Co.?
  • Direct client interaction with a diverse range of businesses, organizations, and individuals.
  • Direct access to and interaction with the firm's partners.
  • Experience across tax, assurance, accounting, and consulting engagements.
  • Opportunities to plan and manage engagements, review work, and train professional staff.
  • Meaningful opportunities for professional advancement.
  • A professional and family-friendly environment with less bureaucracy than a large regional or national firm.
  • Minimal travel, generally limited to Tyler and East Texas, with no routine overnight travel.
  • Primarily in-office work, with remote work possible upon approval. Compensation and Benefits $70,000-$85,000 , with placement within the range based on experience, qualifications, CPA status or progress, and demonstrated abilities.
  • Health insurance and Section 125 cafeteria plan.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Flexible scheduling.
  • New-business incentive bonus opportunities.
  • Firm-paid continuing professional education.
  • Firm-paid CPA license fees and professional dues.
  • Bonus for successfully completing the CPA examination.
