Overview We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and experienced Senior Bookkeeper / Tax Accounting Specialist to join our accounting and tax team. This role is responsible for managing and reviewing client bookkeeping, maintaining accurate financial records, identifying and correcting discrepancies, and preparing financial information for tax preparation. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online, bookkeeping, account reconciliations, business income and expenses, financial statements, and tax preparation . This position requires someone who can work independently, take ownership of client accounts, identify issues proactively, and maintain organized, accurate, and tax-ready books throughout the year. This is a client-focused position that requires strong attention to detail, sound accounting judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate professionally with business clients and internal accounting and tax team members. ResponsibilitiesClient Bookkeeping & Accounting Manage and review full-cycle bookkeeping for business clients. Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks Online and other accounting software as applicable. Review and categorize bank and credit card transactions accurately. Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, and other balance sheet accounts. Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity as needed. Prepare and review journal entries and general ledger activity when necessary. Analyze account activity and identify errors, inconsistencies, and unusual transactions. Perform bookkeeping cleanups, corrections, and catch-up work for clients. Ensure client books are accurate, organized, and tax-ready throughout the year. Review financial statements, including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports, for accuracy and completeness. Assist with financial reporting and provide clear explanations of discrepancies or accounting issues. Tax Preparation Support Prepare and organize financial information needed for business and individual tax returns. Review client bookkeeping for tax-related issues and identify missing or incorrectly categorized transactions. Assist with business and individual tax preparation as assigned. Ensure financial records and supporting documentation are complete and organized for tax preparation. Work closely with the accounting and tax team to resolve bookkeeping issues before tax returns are prepared. Request missing financial documents and information from clients in a timely and professional manner. Client Communication Communicate directly with clients regarding bookkeeping questions, missing documents, transactions, and accounting discrepancies. Request and follow up on outstanding financial information. Explain bookkeeping and financial record issues clearly and professionally. Maintain organized client records and documentation. Provide reliable and timely follow-through on client requests and assigned tasks. Accounting Operations Assist with improving bookkeeping workflows, processes, and internal procedures. Maintain accurate and organized working files and documentation. Utilize Excel and Google Sheets for financial analysis, reporting, tracking, and data organization. Collaborate with the accounting and tax team to maintain consistency and accuracy across client accounts. Work independently while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of accountability. What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper, Accounting Specialist, or similar accounting role . Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online . Solid bookkeeping and accounting experience. Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations. Strong understanding of business income and expenses. Ability to review and properly categorize business transactions. Experience performing bookkeeping cleanup, corrections, and catch-up work. Working knowledge of financial statements, including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports. Understanding of basic accounting principles, including debits, credits, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and general ledger activity. Experience preparing or supporting financial information for tax returns. Experience working with business clients. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities. Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned client accounts. Organized, disciplined, dependable, and reliable. Preferred Qualifications Public accounting or accounting firm experience. Experience assisting with business and individual tax preparation. Experience with Xero, Sage, or other accounting platforms. Experience with payroll processing. Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable. Experience with corporate or nonprofit accounting. Familiarity with GAAP and financial reporting principles. Experience managing multiple client accounts simultaneously.
