Remote (Must be willing to attend occasional in-person meetings in the Huntsville, AL area as needed)
Job Type:
Full-Time About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing team. This position plays a key role in supporting financial operations, government contract accounting compliance, financial reporting, month-end close activities, and accounting process improvements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in government contracting, experience with FAR and DCAA compliance requirements, and advanced proficiency with QuickBooks. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment while helping strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting capabilities. Key Responsibilities General Accounting & Financial Reporting Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial schedules. Maintain general ledger accuracy and compliance with GAAP. Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses. Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash management activities. Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation for internal and external audits. Government Contract Accounting Support accounting activities related to federal government contracts. Maintain contract cost accounting records and labor reconciliations. Monitor direct, indirect, and unallowable costs. Maintain and reconcile indirect cost pools, including Fringe, Overhead, and G&A. Support billing and revenue recognition for FFP, T&M, and Cost-Reimbursement contracts. Review contract costs for allowability, allocability, and reasonableness in accordance with FAR requirements. Assist with DCAA audit readiness and accounting system compliance. Systems & Process Improvement Support administration and enhancement of accounting and timekeeping systems. Assist with accounting system configuration to support government contracting requirements. Develop and improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and workflow efficiencies. Provide guidance and support to junior accounting team members. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 6+ years of progressive accounting experience. 6+ years of government contract accounting experience.
Experience with:
FAR cost principles DCAA compliance and audit support Indirect cost structures and rate calculations Contract billing and labor accounting Advanced QuickBooks proficiency. Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple priorities. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional certification such as CPA, CMA, or CGFM. Experience with Costpoint, Unanet, Oracle NetSuite, or other government contracting ERP systems. Experience supporting accounting system implementations or migrations. Pay:
$90,252.64 - $96,648.34 per year
