The Sierra Club Foundation promotes efforts to educate and empower people to protect and improve the natural and human environment. The Staff Accountant will play a pivotal role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with audits to support the Foundation's mission. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with financial regulations and providing support to the Finance Department. Applications will be reviewed as they come in, with interviews expected to begin in late May.Reports To:

Based in Oakland, California. This position is expected to be in the office 2 days a week, under normal circumstances.Primary Responsibilities:
1. Cash Management Process cash receipts and ensure accurate recording in the general ledger. Prepare and manage bank deposits, ensuring timely deposits and accurate documentation. 2. Accounts Payable Manage accounts payable functions, including processing invoices and payments in a timely manner. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies. Prepare and file 1099 forms for independent contractors and vendors as required. 3. Bank Reconciliations Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of cash balances and transactions. Investigate and resolve any reconciling items promptly. 4. Account Analysis Conduct account analysis to verify the accuracy of transactions and balance sheet accounts. Prepare journal entries and ensure their proper input into the accounting system. 5. Audit Support Prepare audit workpapers and documentation as requested by the Director of Finance. Assist in the coordination of the annual audit process with external auditors. 6. Accounting File Organization Maintain organized accounting files and documentation to ensure compliance and facilitate easy access. Ensure all financial documentation is stored securely and in accordance with organizational policies. 7. Compliance and Regulations Stay informed about accounting standards and regulations applicable to non-profit organizations. Support compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations.Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Proven experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit environment Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Proficient in accounting software (Netsuite), Salesforce, and Microsoft Excel Eager to learn and lead on new tech applications as needed Attention to detail and high level of accuracy Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks Excellent written and oral communication skills Understand and model equity, inclusion, and justice in individual and team settings Compensation +Benefits:
The salary range is $75,000- $85,000 .
