Job Description
Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant is a detail oriented professional desiring to utilize accounting proficiency to support the child focused services of the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center. The Staff Accountant has the primary responsibility for processing payroll, managing and processing accounts payable, billing for client services when applicable, and reconciling accounts receivable. The Staff Accountant will work collaboratively with the Director of Philanthropy and Communications to maintain the donor database and to process and acknowledge gifts.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Payroll Confirm all new employee-financial information is accurate in payroll system. Remove terminated employees from active list in payroll system. Update payroll records as necessary for all employee changes. Maintain employee allocations as appropriate for funding sources in payroll system. Process biweekly payroll through payroll system. Answer all inquiries and requests related to payroll, including tracking of PTO and medical/parental leave. • Accounts Payable Review PO and invoice packages for proper authorizations and documentation. Review GL coding of invoices to ensure proper allocation to grants and GL account codes. Verify monthly bills and research discrepancies. Ensure all appropriate documentation packets are scanned and filed electronically. Review credit card charges and ensure they are properly posted to general ledger. Prepare accounts payable checks for Executive Director's signature or execute ACH payments when applicable. Prepare 1099s on annual basis as applicable. • Accounts Receivable Bill SC Department of Crime Victim Compensation, SC Department of Social Services and other payment sources for client services on a monthly basis. Review past due accounts monthly and take necessary action to collect payments on a timely basis. Bill for other services when provided with appropriate documentation (ie. contract training, expert witness testimony). Review backup support received and make sure deposits are coded to proper GL account. Prepare monthly/periodic billing reports. Review all accounts on an annual basis with Associate Director ofFinance to determine write-offs. • Donor Records and Database Document gifts received through checks, credit cards, ACH on the appropriate donor record on a daily or as needed basis. Complete data entry and maintenance of donor database, processing and managing correspondence pertaining to donations using Raisers Edge (RE) donor management software. Maintain accuracy of database of donors and prospects using Raiser's Edge. Generate reports and queries as necessary to aid theDirector of Philanthropy & Communication Qualifications:
•Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. Minimum 2 years accounting experience. Experience working in non-profit or social services sectors preferred. Experience working with accounting and payroll software platforms and general ledger experience. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills. Demonstrated understanding of finance and accounting principles and procedures. Demonstrated experience with billing and accounts receivable procedures. Ability to develop and prepare reports. Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to professionally handle highly confidential information. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft products and ability to work within customized financial and Human Resource/Payroll software.Other Responsibilities:
Participate in a minimum of two public awareness and/or fundraising events annually on behalf of Dee Norton Meet other needs as identified by the Executive Director and/or Leadership Team.
