Available Benefits Help for . Position Summary Seeking an entry-level accountant to assist with the day-to-day financial activities of the agency. This position will provide accounting support in accounts payable, grant accounting, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and other Finance Department functions. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working with numbers, and interested in learning governmental and housing authority accounting. Recent accounting graduates or those finishing a degree are encouraged to apply. Previous housing authority experience is helpful but not required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable invoices and vendor payments.
- Review invoices for accuracy, proper approvals, account coding, and supporting documentation.
- Match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and receiving documentation.
- Enter invoices, payments, cash receipts, and other financial transactions into the accounting system.
- Assist with maintaining the general ledger and reviewing account activity.
- Prepare basic journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Assist with monthly bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Research and help resolve account discrepancies.
- Assist with tracking grant expenditures, reimbursements, available balances, and funding deadlines.
- Maintain supporting documentation for federal, state, local, and other grant-funded programs.
- Help ensure grant expenses are properly coded to the correct program, project, property, or funding source.
- Assist with preparing grant reimbursement requests and financial reports.
- Maintain organized accounting records for audits, monitoring reviews, and grant compliance.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end closing activities.
- Prepare schedules, reports, and supporting documents requested by management or auditors.
- Assist with monitoring departmental budgets and comparing actual expenditures to approved budgets.
- Maintain vendor records, including W-9 forms and other required documentation.
- Respond professionally to questions from vendors, employees, and internal departments.
- Follow the agency's accounting policies, procurement requirements, internal controls, and confidentiality standards.
- Provide additional accounting and administrative support to the Finance Department as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; candidates nearing completion of their degree may also be considered.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles, including debits, credits, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and data-entry skills.
- Ability to review financial documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Ability to follow established procedures, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or previous entry-level experience in accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, or grants.
- Experience with accounting or enterprise financial software.
- Experience working in a governmental, nonprofit, property-management, or federally funded environment.
- Familiarity with grant accounting or fund accounting.
- Knowledge of HUD or affordable housing programs is helpful but not required. Desired Candidate
