Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Starter Accountant to join our finance team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals aspiring to develop their accounting skills within a supportive environment. The successful candidate will assist with financial record-keeping, ensure regulatory compliance, and support various accounting functions essential to our organization's financial health. Duties Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards. Support the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, bank statements, and accounts receivable records to ensure accuracy. Enter journal entries accurately into accounting software such as QuickBooks or PeopleSoft, including debits & credits and VLOOKUP functions for data analysis. Help maintain compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and other regulatory requirements relevant to nonprofit and governmental accounting. Contribute to month-end closing processes by assisting with balance sheet reconciliation and financial report writing. Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis activities to aid financial planning efforts. Collaborate with senior accountants on special projects involving financial report interpretation and financial management. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant coursework or internships in accounting are preferred. Basic understanding of accounting principles such as double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and financial concepts. Familiarity with financial software including QuickBooks, Quicken, or similar platforms; experience with PeopleSoft is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel data analysis tools like VLOOKUP, spreadsheets, and pivot tables. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills for managing multiple tasks accurately. Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new software systems and regulatory requirements. Effective communication skills for collaborating within a team environment and supporting mentoring opportunities for junior staff.
