Role:
vcfo is working with a client that designs and builds mission-critical electromechanical assemblies supporting both commercial customers and the U.S. Department of War (DoW). They have nearly doubled the size of workforce and sales over the last year. We are looking for our first in-house Senior Cost Accountant to own and continuously improve our accounting function. This role goes well beyond closing books. You will build financial processes, partner with executive leadership, and ensure the company remains audit ready as we continue to grow.
What You Will Own:
This is a hands-on role for someone who can operate at a controller level of judgment while still managing the routine accounting work directly. You will partner closely with the CEO and the Manager of Business Affairs, and you will be central for how we account for government funds. Own the monthly close, general ledger, financial statements, reconciliations, and accrual accounting. Maintain a DCAA-compliant accounting system that meets FAR, DFARS, and GAAP requirements. Develop and maintain indirect rates, cost pools, labor distribution, and contract cost reporting. Partner with Business Affairs on CPFF, FFP, T&M, and other government contract requirements. Support DCAA, DCMA, customer, and external financial audits. Lead AP, AR, cash management, fixed assets, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition. Ensure ERP and accounting systems remain accurate, scalable, and audit-ready. Analyze manufacturing costs, labor efficiencies, inventory valuation, and material variances. Develop dashboards and KPI reporting for executive leadership. Identify automation opportunities and continuously improve accounting processes. Support ERP implementation, optimization, and system integrations.
Must Haves:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance 3+ years in manufacturing accounting with significant cost accounting responsibility. Hands-on experience with government contracting and working knowledge of
FAR, DFARS, CAS, DCAA
expectations, and GAAP. Strong understanding of accrual accounting, inventory accounting, job costing, indirect rates, and labor distribution. Comfort operating strategically while still performing day-to-day accounting work. Nice to

CPA 5+ years in manufacturing accounting with significant cost accounting responsibility. Experience supporting ERP systems such as JAMIS, Deltek, or similar. Previous employment within the Aerospace and Defense industry
