A healthcare organization in Newport News, VA is seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join their team. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to transition into a permanent position. The role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working directly with financial data, analyzing results, and digging into detailed accounting information. Key Responsibilities Prepare, maintain, and analyze budgets and financial information Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements Perform financial, cost, and variance analysis to identify trends and discrepancies Analyze financial data and provide accurate information to support business decisions Perform detailed accounting functions and maintain accurate financial records Research and investigate variances, discrepancies, and unusual financial activity Work with large financial datasets using Microsoft Excel Utilize VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, formulas, and absolute/relative references Assist with financial reporting, reconciliations, and other accounting projects Collaborate with internal teams to gather financial information and resolve discrepancies Support ongoing budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required Bachelor's degree in Finance or Business with a concentration in Accounting and approximately 21 accounting credit hours may also qualify Transcripts are required Minimum of 1 year of hands-on accounting experience involving analysis, budgeting, and financial statements Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes Hands-on experience with budget preparation/maintenance, financial analysis, financial statements, and cost/variance analysis Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, formulas, and absolute/relative references Ability to independently work with large or complex financial datasets Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to work directly with financial details while managing multiple priorities Healthcare accounting or finance experience is preferred but not required What They're Looking For An accounting professional who enjoys working with numbers and financial data Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Someone who is comfortable digging into financial details and investigating variances Highly detail-oriented and accurate Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with complex datasets Someone who can work independently while collaborating with internal teams A professional who is interested in developing their accounting and financial analysis experience What This Role Offers Up to $30 per hour Contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential for permanent employment Full-time position in Newport News, VA 100% onsite work environment Opportunity to gain experience within a healthcare organization Exposure to budgeting, financial reporting, financial analysis, and detailed accounting Potential for long-term employment and career growth
