Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a contract position based in Richmond, Virginia. This role is well suited for a finance specialist who can manage daily accounting activity, maintain accurate records, and contribute to timely tax and financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, and corporate tax processes while working effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries to ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and aligned with reporting timelines.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, researching discrepancies and resolving issues in a timely manner.
• Assist with the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns by organizing supporting documentation and validating financial data.
• Support sales tax compliance activities, including reviewing transactions, calculating liabilities, and helping coordinate filings.
• Analyze account activity and produce schedules that support month-end and periodic close requirements.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather financial information, clarify accounting matters, and improve reporting accuracy.
• Review accounting documentation for completeness and consistency to help maintain strong internal financial controls. Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Experience in a staff accountant or similar accounting role.
• Working knowledge of corporate tax principles and related reporting requirements.
• Experience supporting sales tax processes, including review and preparation activities.
• Strong understanding of journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for financial analysis and reporting.
• High level of accuracy, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
