Staff Accountant -
Fiscal Transaction Analyst Description:
Astyra is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with fiscal transaction and reconciliation experience to support a specialized cost settlement project for a state government agency. This position will assist with the research, reconciliation, application, and recording of financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting procedures.
Responsibilities:
Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) when reviewing and processing financial transactions. Support cost settlement activities, including researching payment discrepancies and reconciling financial records. Review unidentified or unapplied receipts and determine the appropriate receivable invoices for payment application. Research discrepancies involving payments, invoices, deposits, and account balances. Enter deposits, adjusting journal entries, accounts payable transactions, and other financial activity into the agency's financial systems. Perform account reconciliations and assist with resolving outstanding or unmatched transactions. Review supporting documentation to ensure transactions are accurate, complete, and properly authorized. Prepare spreadsheets, reports, and supporting schedules to track project activity and resolution status. Collaborate with fiscal, program, and administrative teams to obtain information and resolve transaction issues.
Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience with fiscal transactions, account reconciliation, cash application, accounts receivable, accounts payable, or general ledger activity. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research and resolve financial discrepancies. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other financial or accounting systems. Excellent attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
Previous government or public-sector accounting experience. Experience supporting cost settlements, financial audits, or large-scale reconciliation projects. Familiarity with state agency financial systems, policies, and internal controls.
