Job Summary To Apply for this Job Click Here Chenango County is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to join the Department of Social Services in Norwich, NY. Accounting Supervisor Responsibilities:
Oversee and coordinate fiscal operations for the Department of Social Services. Perform general accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Monitor account balances, financial transactions, and fund activity. Assist with departmental budget preparation and administration. Prepare and oversee financial, statistical, and administrative reports. Oversee departmental payroll operations. Help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial requirements. Develop and implement financial and administrative procedures. Supervise, train, and support clerical account-keeping staff. Provide financial information and guidance to departmental leadership.
Accounting Supervisor Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, public administration, or a closely related field plus 1 year of accounting/auditing experience , including at least 6 months of supervisory experience; OR Associate's degree in a related field plus 3 years of accounting/auditing experience , including at least 6 months of supervisory experience; OR An equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, AP/AR, auditing, or related accounting functions. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills. Government, municipal, social services, nonprofit, or fund accounting experience is helpful but not required .
Accounting Supervisor Compensation & Benefits:
$65,000 starting annual salary. 35-hour workweek. Health, dental, and vision insurance. Generous paid leave and paid holidays. New York State Retirement System membership. 457(b) tax-deferred retirement savings plan. Eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) . No Civil Service examination required under the current HELP Program. Stable, full-time County employment with excellent benefits. Candidates currently living outside Chenango County who have ties to Norwich or the surrounding area and are interested in returning home are also encouraged to apply.
