Job Description

The Staff Accountant & A/P Supervisor is responsible for performing core accounting functions — including account payables, journal entries, and weekly, month-end, quarterly, and year-end close support — while directly supervising the Accounts Payable Specialists. This role ensures the accuracy and timeliness of AP processes, supports broader accounting operations for Gold Creek Foods, and serves as the first point of escalation for AP-related issues. The position supports both plant and corporate accounting needs and contributes to the integrity of financial data used for operational and business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting:
Prepare and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial records. Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances. Assist with weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities. Prepare recurring financial reports and supporting schedules. Analyze account activity and explain significant fluctuations.
Accounts Payable Supervision & Oversight:
Supervise the Accounts Payable Specialists, including daily workload assignment and prioritization. Review AP transactions and payment generation for accuracy and completeness. Monitor AP aging reports and work with vendors and internal teams to resolve outstanding balances. Serve as the point of escalation for complex or unresolved AP issues. Ensure AP procedures align with company policy and internal controls.
Accounts Payable & Analysis:
Perform balance sheet account reconciliations. Research and resolve discrepancies identified during reconciliations. Monitor accruals and other assigned balance sheet accounts. Maintain account schedules and supporting workpapers.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
Support the execution of established accounting controls and procedures. Maintain documentation necessary for internal and external audits. Assist with audit requests and provide required supporting information. Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
Leadership & Team Development:
Coach and develop AP Specialists to support individual and team performance goals. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback. Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration within the AP function.
Systems & Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve AP and accounting processes and reporting efficiency. Support ERP system enhancements and process improvement initiatives. Perform other duties reasonably related to the role and consistent with business needs. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises Accounts Payable Specialists. Responsible for workload assignment, day-to-day guidance, performance feedback, and coaching for these direct reports.
Qualifications Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience required, including exposure to AR processes. Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred. Manufacturing, food production, or cost accounting experience preferred. Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools preferred (e.g., Sage).
Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to coach and provide constructive feedback to direct reports. Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally, with or without assistance. Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking, hearing, and exchanging information in person and via email, phone or video. Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment. This position may require occasional visits to production facilities or other operational areas. When present in these environments, employees may be exposed to varying temperatures, moderate noise levels, and active production operations.
