Job Description
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to conduct professional audits of business firms to ensure compliance with applicable revenue laws, ordinances, and regulations. License & Revenue Auditors examine accounting records, determine tax liabilities, and enforce city tax provisions, including sales tax, business tax, and business license requirements. Work responsibilities include planning and conducting audits of businesses operating within the City of Montgomery, communicating audit findings and recommendations to supervisors and taxpayers or representatives, initiating enforcement actions against delinquent taxpayers, processing amended returns for audit assessments, and performing various administrative duties. This position requires a strong understanding of tax laws, independent judgment, and the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations across various industries. License & Revenue Auditors must demonstrate professionalism and tact when interacting with the public, legal representatives, accountants, and internal staff. While work methods follow established laws and division guidelines, License & Revenue Auditors must exercise significant discretion and initiative in conducting audits of varying complexity. This position may also participate in coordinated or joint audits with professionals from other taxing jurisdictions. The License & Revenue Auditor reports to the Senior License & Revenue Auditor. Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or public administration and either one (1) year of experience auditing business financial records or two (2) years of professional accounting experience.
NOTE :
Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered. After employment, License & Revenue Auditors are required to receive the training necessary to earn the professional qualification of Certified Revenue Examiner (CRE) and must maintain this certification through annual training. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record to drive City vehicles.WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires travel within the City of Montgomery and occasional travel outside of the city and state of Alabama. Field audits may be conducted in a wide variety of work environments, including an office setting, outdoors, or work sites.Benefits
