Job Description

Position Summary The Auditor I performs independent and objective assessments of business processes, operations, controls, and risk management practices across the organization. The role works with business and functional leaders to identify significant risks, evaluate the effectiveness of controls, determine root causes of gaps, and develop practical recommendations that strengthen operations and organizational performance. Key Responsibilities Plan and execute risk-based audits, assessments, and advisory engagements across business and operational functions. Understand business processes, objectives, systems, and risks through interviews, documentation review, data analysis, and field observations. Identify key operational, financial, regulatory, safety, technology, and compliance risks. Evaluate whether controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively. Perform testing and analyze quantitative and qualitative information to support audit conclusions. Identify control gaps, process weaknesses, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement. Determine underlying and systemic causes of identified issues rather than focusing solely on individual control failures. Develop practical, risk-based recommendations in collaboration with management. Prepare clear audit workpapers, findings, reports, and executive-level communications. Present audit results to management and communicate complex issues in a concise and understandable manner. Track corrective actions and evaluate whether management actions adequately address identified risks. Support enterprise risk assessments and annual audit planning. Participate in advisory engagements and provide independent risk and control perspectives on new processes, projects, systems, and organizational changes. Apply data analytics and technology to improve audit coverage, identify anomalies, and recognize emerging risk patterns. Maintain knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards, organizational policies, and evolving business risks. Build effective working relationships while maintaining the independence and professional skepticism required of Internal Audit. Understanding of the utility, energy, environmental, and health/safety industries a plus. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, business, accounting, finance, information systems, or a related discipline; demonstrated ability to understand complex business processes and evaluate risk and controls; strong analytical, investigative, communication, and report-writing skills; and the ability to work across technical and nontechnical organizations. Professional certifications such as CIA, CPA, CISA, PE, or other relevant credentials may be preferred depending on the organization.
