Job Description

Assistant Professor of Accounting- Tenure Track Position:
The Michael E. Stephens College of Business (SCOB) at the University of Montevallo seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting. The anticipated start date is January 2027, although candidates who are unable to begin in January may be considered for an August 2027 start. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate accounting and MBA courses, along with enthusiasm for scholarly engagement and mentorship of students from diverse academic and career backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to teach tax accounting. Overview of the
Stephens College of Business:
The SCOB Department of Business supports undergraduate programs in General Business, Data Analytics, Management, Marketing, Finance, and Accounting as well as a Master's in Business Administration. These programs are fully accredited through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The average class size in SCOB is 21 students, underscoring our commitment to individualized learning. Instructors may teach up to 15 credit hours per semester.
Our Campus:
The University of Montevallo is Alabama's only public liberal arts institution. Located approximately 30 miles South of Birmingham, Alabama. The University of Montevallo (UM) serves approximately 2,900 students annually. Montevallo offers undergraduate and graduate programs across the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education and Human Development, Fine Arts, and Health Professions. SCOB currently supports approximately 385 undergraduate and 35 graduate students. Across the five Colleges, UM offers bachelors, masters, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
A Ph. D. in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution is required. However, ABD doctoral candidates nearing completion will also be considered. Strong communication skills; a substantive commitment to excellence in teaching taxation and other undergraduate accounting courses with students from a wide array of academic and career backgrounds, as well as the ability and willingness to teach MBA courses. Demonstrated ability or potential to engage in scholarly and research activities consistent with AACSB standards and the expectations of the University.
Desired Qualifications:
Special consideration will also be given to applicants with professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) or relevant industry experience.
