Accounting / Finance Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and dependable Accounting Auditor / Full-Charge Bookkeeper to join our Accounting / Finance team. This position is designed for an individual who enjoys investigating financial activity, identifying discrepancies, solving problems, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of company records. The primary focus of this position is auditing and reviewing financial and Point of Sale (POS) activity. The successful candidate will initially spend significant time developing a thorough understanding of the company's POS system and accounting processes. Responsibilities will include reviewing transactions, identifying unusual or inconsistent activity, researching errors and discrepancies, and determining the source and appropriate resolution of problems. An important component of the position will involve using information available within the POS system, accounting software, and video surveillance footage to research and investigate discrepancies when appropriate. Findings will be documented and communicated to the appropriate members of management or the IT team so that system issues, programming errors, or other identified problems can be addressed and corrected. As the employee develops a comprehensive understanding of the company's systems, procedures, and financial operations, the position will progressively expand into full-charge bookkeeping responsibilities. Training will be provided in areas including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and account reconciliations, payroll, month-end close, financial reporting, and other general accounting functions. The long-term objective of this position is to develop the successful candidate into a Full-Charge Bookkeeper capable of independently managing the company's day-to-day accounting operations while continuing to provide strong financial oversight and internal control. The ideal candidate is naturally curious, highly organized, analytical, and exceptionally detail-oriented. They should enjoy finding things that do not look right, researching the reason behind discrepancies, and following issues through to resolution. The ability to recognize patterns, protect confidential information, communicate findings clearly, and work independently is essential. Key Responsibilities Accounting Audit & Financial Review Review daily financial and POS activity for accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Audit transactions and supporting documentation to identify errors, discrepancies, unusual activity, or potential control issues. Develop a thorough understanding of the company's POS system and use available system information to research and resolve discrepancies. Investigate transaction variances, voids, refunds, discounts, cash discrepancies, payment issues, and other unusual activity. Research discrepancies by reviewing POS records, accounting records, transaction history, and other available documentation. Utilize video surveillance footage, when appropriate and authorized, as an additional resource when investigating transaction discrepancies or operational issues. Identify recurring errors, system issues, or procedural weaknesses and communicate findings to management. Clearly document identified problems, research performed, findings, and recommended or implemented solutions. Communicate identified POS or technology-related issues to the IT team and follow up as necessary to ensure appropriate corrections are made. Compare information between the POS system, accounting system, bank records, and other financial records to verify accuracy. Assist with developing and maintaining effective internal accounting controls and procedures. Identify opportunities to improve accounting accuracy, reporting, and operational processes. Accounting & Bookkeeping Development As training progresses, assume increasing responsibility for the following areas: Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and supporting accounting records. Perform bank, credit card, and other balance sheet account reconciliations. Assist with accounts payable, including invoice entry, verification, approvals, payment processing, and vendor records. Assist with accounts receivable, including invoicing, payment application, customer accounts, and collections. Learn and perform payroll processing and maintain accurate payroll records and reports. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. Participate in month-end and year-end closing procedures. Maintain accurate fixed asset and depreciation records. Assist with cash-flow monitoring and forecasting. Prepare and maintain sales tax and other applicable tax-related documentation and reports. Assist with annual tax preparation and provide requested documentation to external CPAs, accountants, or auditors. Maintain organized, accurate, and confidential financial documentation. Assist management and the CFO with budgeting, financial analysis, reconciliations, and special accounting projects. Qualifications 2-3+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, auditing, financial operations, or a closely related field preferred. Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping practices. Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and determine their underlying cause. Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Strong problem-solving and research skills. Ability to learn and become highly proficient in POS and accounting software systems. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms preferred. Strong Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills. Ability to analyze large amounts of information and recognize inconsistencies or unusual patterns. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate an issue to management. Ability to clearly document findings and communicate problems and solutions. Ability to handle confidential financial, employee, customer, and operational information with discretion. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Willingness and ability to learn progressively more complex bookkeeping and accounting responsibilities.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
