Job Description

Accounting Specialist OC Patrol — Anaheim, CA $28-$35 per hour | 25-40 hours per week OC Patrol is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team in Anaheim. This position will initially focus on the day-to-day accounting and administrative work that keeps our financial operations running smoothly, with the opportunity to take on significantly more responsibility as experience and familiarity with the company grow. This is a great opportunity for either a recent accounting or finance graduate looking to gain hands-on experience across many areas of business accounting, or an experienced bookkeeper/accounting professional looking for a role with room to grow. The person currently overseeing the company's accounting and financial operations will remain involved during the transition and provide training and oversight. As the Accounting Specialist becomes comfortable with our processes and demonstrates the ability to take ownership of additional responsibilities, more of the day-to-day accounting function will transition into this position. Initial Responsibilities The Accounting Specialist will assist with and gradually take ownership of responsibilities including: Accounts payable, including entering bills, preparing payments and maintaining vendor records Customer invoicing and accounts receivable Entering and properly coding bank and credit card transactions in QuickBooks Bank and credit card reconciliations Applying customer payments and maintaining accurate customer balances Assisting with routine customer collection follow-up Maintaining accurate supporting documentation for accounting transactions Vendor setup and W-9 collection Entering payroll information into QuickBooks from our third-party payroll provider Assisting with 1099 preparation and recordkeeping Processing checks and other routine accounting transactions Monitoring and managing company Gmail accounts, including identifying messages requiring follow-up and routing or responding to routine correspondence Managing company mail, including receiving, sorting, processing and identifying items requiring follow-up Assisting with scheduling and calendar management through Google Calendar Maintaining organized electronic and physical accounting records Assisting with certificates of insurance and other routine administrative/compliance items Supporting additional accounting and administrative projects as needed Opportunity for Growth This position is intended to grow over time. As the Accounting Specialist learns the company's operations and demonstrates proficiency, additional responsibilities may include: Taking greater ownership of the complete accounts payable and accounts receivable processes Managing customer invoicing and collections Completing monthly bank and credit card reconciliations Payroll accounting and reconciliation Month-end accounting procedures Certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting Workers' compensation audits 1099 preparation and annual reporting Sales and use tax reporting Business licenses and annual registrations Insurance and compliance administration Additional accounting, reporting and financial responsibilities The long-term goal is for the right person to become highly familiar with the company's accounting operations and assume increasing responsibility and independence. Qualifications Candidates should meet one of the following : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a similar field; recent graduates are encouraged to apply, or At least 3 years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience if a degree is not held In addition: Previous QuickBooks experience is required . Experience with QuickBooks Desktop is preferred, but candidates experienced with QuickBooks Online can be trained on Desktop. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Comfortable working with numbers and learning new accounting processes Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently after training while knowing when to ask questions Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, Gmail, Google Calendar, and general office software Professional judgment when handling confidential financial information Experience with payroll accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, or general bookkeeping is preferred but not required for candidates with a relevant degree and strong accounting fundamentals. Schedule & Compensation $28-$35 per hour , depending on education and experience Approximately 25-40 hours per week initially Monday-Friday Position is based in our Anaheim office Opportunity to increase responsibilities and transition into a full-time position Full-time employees are eligible for company benefits, including available health insurance and 401(k) About the Role This is not a position where we expect someone to know every aspect of the job on day one. We are looking for someone who is accurate, organized, dependable and interested in learning how the accounting side of a business operates from beginning to end. For someone early in their accounting career, this position offers exposure to much more than a single area such as accounts payable or accounts receivable. The right person will have the opportunity to learn the company's broader accounting operation and take on greater responsibility as they develop. For an experienced candidate, the position offers an opportunity to step into an established accounting system, take ownership of the day-to-day processes and grow into a larger role within the company.
Pay:
$28.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 25.0 - 40.0 per week Application Question(s): Do you have either (1) a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, OR (2) at least 3 years of professional bookkeeping or accounting experience? Briefly describe your accounting or bookkeeping experience, including any experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable/invoicing, bank or credit card reconciliations, payroll entries, or general QuickBooks bookkeeping. Recent graduates may include relevant coursework, internships, or other accounting experience. This position will initially focus on day-to-day accounting and administrative responsibilities, with the opportunity to take on more of the company's accounting function over time.
