Job Description

DEFINITION
To perform a variety of routine entry level clerical and accounting duties in two major areas: accounts receivable and accounts payable with a combination of duties encompassing basic level accounting processes including:
  • the processing of daily deposits,
  • preparing and processing accounts receivable, and/or payable,
  • processing utility billings and collection of utility bills;
  • assisting with reporting / audit requests from other Agencies;
  • and other accounting tasks as assigned. Additional customer service related tasks including:
  • first contact with customers at public counter; receptionist activities
  • response to customer service requests;
  • routine clerical office duties;
  • and other assigned tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform customer service counter duties including cashiering duties and processing payments; provide information and applications for various functions and other customer services as required. Provide customers, departments, and fellow employees fiscal information, explaining procedures and answering questions; keep and maintain accurate and current files related to duties assigned. Assists in preparation, processing and maintaining utility billings; establish new water customer account and process closed accounts; process penalties on past-due water accounts; mail reminder and late notices; respond to utility customer inquiries; prepare water usage reports. Assists in balance cash drawer and prepare deposits, preparation and processing accounts payable invoices; process collections on past due accounts; prepare and distribute warrant register to Finance Director / Council; mail warrants to vendors after approval. Perform a variety of general clerical duties including typing, maintaining files and records, and processing mail. Assist others in the department on various assignments during leaves as directed.
EXPERIENCE
Three years of clerical and or bookkeeping experience. Experience gained in municipal or other government finance related functions is desirable. Bilingual fluency in Spanish is also desirable. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
