About the Position We are a small, 35-bed skilled nursing and post-acute rehabilitation facility seeking an experienced, highly motivated Accounts Receivable & Collections Specialist to take ownership of facility billing, accounts receivable, and collections. Because of our size, this is an opportunity for the right person to have a significant impact. We are looking for someone who doesn't simply process billing—we need someone who owns their AR, follows accounts through to resolution, identifies barriers to payment, and is driven to collect. This position will work closely with facility leadership, residents and families, insurance companies, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure accurate billing and timely payment. Key Responsibilities Manage accounts receivable and collections for the facility Bill and follow up on Medicare, Medicaid, managed care/commercial insurance, private insurance, and private-pay accounts Monitor aging reports and aggressively follow up on outstanding balances Research unpaid, underpaid, rejected, and denied claims and work them through resolution Complete insurance follow-up and communicate directly with payers regarding outstanding claims Prepare and manage private-pay resident billing Communicate professionally with residents, responsible parties, and families regarding balances and payment expectations Establish appropriate payment arrangements when necessary Identify reimbursement issues and proactively remove barriers to collection Maintain accurate documentation of collection activity and account status Partner with Admissions, Medical Records, Therapy, Nursing, and facility leadership to obtain documentation needed for billing and reimbursement Assist with Medicaid-related accounts and follow-up Monitor cash collections, bad debt, and overall AR performance Provide regular updates to facility leadership regarding outstanding accounts, collection barriers, and anticipated cash Who We're Looking For The right person for this position is highly self-motivated, organized, persistent, and results-driven. Take ownership without requiring constant direction or follow-up Be comfortable making collection calls and having professional financial conversations Be persistent while maintaining excellent relationships with residents, families, and payers Have strong problem-solving and investigative skills Be able to prioritize accounts based on aging, balance, and likelihood of collection Be highly organized and able to independently manage multiple payer types and deadlines Understand that successful AR management is measured by results, not simply activity Qualifications Previous healthcare billing, accounts receivable, or collections experience strongly preferred Skilled nursing/post-acute billing experience highly preferred Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, managed care/commercial insurance, and private-pay billing preferred Experience working denials and aging AR strongly preferred PointClickCare experience is a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills High level of accountability and attention to detail Compensation $29.00-$32.00 per hour , depending on experience. This position also offers a performance-based bonus opportunity tied to key accounts receivable and collection outcomes. We are open to starting this position part-time for the right candidate, with the potential to expand into a full-time role based on facility needs and performance.
