Description We are looking for an Accounts Payable Clerk to join a contract opportunity in Stamford, Connecticut within the waste and environmental services sector. This role is well suited for someone who can contribute quickly, stay effective in a fast-changing environment, and bring structure to day-to-day payable activities. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing accuracy, service, and operational awareness while supporting a team during a period of growth and shifting priorities.
Responsibilities:
- Process vendor invoices, payment records, and related financial documents with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
- Enter payable data into internal systems, verify supporting details, and resolve discrepancies before transactions are finalized.
- Reconcile employee expenses, supplier statements, and account activity to maintain reliable financial records.
- Respond to vendor and internal stakeholder questions professionally, providing timely updates on payment status and issue resolution.
- Help establish and improve accounts payable workflows in an environment where procedures and responsibilities may still be developing.
- Adjust to changing priorities and support additional finance-related tasks as business needs evolve.
- Monitor payable transactions for completeness and compliance, escalating exceptions or concerns when needed.
- Contribute to operational efficiency by identifying practical ways to strengthen accuracy, turnaround time, and reporting visibility. Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience in accounts payable or a closely related accounting support role.
- Hands-on ability in accounts payable processing, including invoice handling and payment support activities.
- Strong data entry skills with close attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Experience performing expense reconciliation and reviewing records for inconsistencies.
- Customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with vendors and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal ramp-up time in a contract assignment.
- Comfortable operating in environments where processes are evolving and priorities may change quickly.
