at Robert Half in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, United States Job Description Description We are looking for a dependable Accounting Clerk to support daily financial operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, keeps information organized, and takes pride in producing accurate work. The position contributes to the accounting team by managing routine transactions, maintaining clear records, and helping ensure timely processing across payables, receivables, and reporting activities.
Responsibilities:
- Handle incoming invoices, receipts, and payment records with accuracy while ensuring transactions are entered on schedule.
- Support both accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including tracking balances and assisting with routine follow-up.
- Record financial information in accounting software and maintain complete, well-organized documentation for reference and audit readiness.
- Reconcile bank activity, credit card charges, and related account details to identify and address inconsistencies.
- Assist with billing tasks, payment applications, and responses to customer account questions in a thorough and organized manner.
- Prepare spreadsheets, summaries, and supporting reports that help the accounting team monitor financial activity.
- Investigate differences in invoices, payments, or account records and work with vendors, customers, or internal teams to resolve issues.

- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional accounting coursework or an associate degree is preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related clerical position is preferred.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice processing, and data entry.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, and familiarity with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks or similar systems.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy when handling financial information.
- Effective organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
