Nelson & Frankenberger is seeking an experienced, highly dependable Senior Bookkeeper to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of both the law firm and its affiliated title company, RTS Title. This critical position requires exceptional accuracy, sound judgment, discretion, and a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls. The Senior Bookkeeper serves as a trusted financial resource responsible for maintaining accurate records, managing billing and payment activity, processing reconciliations, supporting payroll-related administration, and overseeing financial transactions associated with legal and title operations. This role works with client funds, trust accounts, title transactions, payroll-related records, and other regulated financial activities. As such, exceptional attention to detail, professional integrity, and adherence to established accounting procedures are essential. The ideal candidate will bring substantial bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within a law firm, title company, accounting firm, financial services organization, or other professional-services environment. This position manages financial processes requiring precision, confidentiality, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. We are seeking a professional who takes ownership of their work, understands the importance of accuracy in financial reporting and transaction management, and takes pride in maintaining well-organized and compliant financial operations.
Essential Responsibilities:
Core Financial Operations (Applicable to Both Nelson & Frankenberger and RTS Title) Maintain accurate financial records and prepare weekly and monthly financial reports. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice entry, payment processing, collections support, and vendor payment administration. Process checks, deposits, incoming payments, wire transfers, and account transfers while maintaining appropriate financial controls. Perform monthly bank account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly. Maintain check stock, banking supplies, and related financial records. Support payroll administration, compensation reporting, employee benefit tracking, insurance records, and
SIMPLE IRA
recordkeeping. Prepare reimbursement payments and other approved disbursements. Ensure compliance with established accounting procedures, internal controls, and documentation requirements. Assist with financial audits, reporting requests, and other accounting-related projects as needed. Serve as a backup resource for designated HR, office management, and financial administrative functions. Nelson & Frankenberger (Law Firm) Responsibilities Enter and post attorney and staff time. Prepare attorney prebills, process approved billing adjustments, and generate monthly client invoices. Prepare specialized client invoices and apply approved discounts when authorized. Submit invoices through Legal Tracker and other client billing platforms. Monitor accounts receivable and provide attorneys with information regarding outstanding client balances. Manage monthly lease payments and firm-specific financial obligations. Support partner compensation, quarterly distributions, and bonus-related financial processes. RTS Title Company Responsibilities Perform daily and monthly IOLTA/trust account reconciliations. Process title-related checks, incoming and outgoing wire transfers, and transaction disbursements. Verify SoftPro orders balance prior to disbursement and confirm all closing requirements have been satisfied. Track transactions requiring disbursement and maintain daily disbursement reports. Process and track commission payments. Enter payroll information into Perfect Practice. Manage title company operating and trust account activity, including canceled-order transactions. Ensure compliance with trust accounting requirements, title regulations, and client-fund handling procedures.
Qualifications:
Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Five (5) or more years of bookkeeping, accounting, or comparable financial operations experience.
Demonstrated experience with:
Bank reconciliations Accounts payable Accounts receivable Billing and invoicing Financial reporting General bookkeeping functions Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business software applications. Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established accounting procedures and internal controls. High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential financial, employee, client, and partner information. Preferred CPA designation preferred but not required. Experience within a law firm, title company, accounting firm, financial services organization, or similarly regulated environment. Experience with trust accounts, escrow accounts, IOLTA accounts, client funds, or other regulated financial accounts. Experience processing wire transfers and transaction-based financial activities. Experience with legal, accounting, title, or practice-management software. Experience with SoftPro, Perfect Practice, Legal Tracker, or comparable systems. Knowledge, Skills & Attributes The successful candidate will be: Exceptionally detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy. Professional and composed when communicating with attorneys, staff, clients, vendors, financial institutions, and outside partners. Capable of exercising sound judgment and recognizing when additional review or approval is necessary. Proactive in maintaining organized documentation and strong financial controls. Comfortable working independently while communicating effectively regarding questions or concerns.
