Opportunity:
South Shore Conservatory is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Part-Time Bookkeeper to support the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing routine transactions, reconciling accounts, and supporting the Finance team in ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working independently, and able to manage detailed financial information with accuracy and confidentiality. Experience working in a nonprofit, educational, or arts organization is a plus. Key Responsibilities Bookkeeping & General Accounting Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records within SSC's accounting system. Record and categorize financial transactions, including revenue, expenses, deposits, and other activity. Assist with maintaining the general ledger and ensuring transactions are coded appropriately. Prepare and enter journal entries as directed. Maintain organized electronic and/or paper financial records and supporting documentation. Accounts Payable Review invoices for accuracy and appropriate documentation and approvals. Enter vendor invoices and prepare payments according to established schedules. Maintain accurate vendor records, including W-9 documentation. Respond to routine vendor questions and research payment discrepancies. Assist with annual 1099 preparation and reporting. Accounts Receivable & Deposits Record payments and other incoming revenue accurately and timely. Assist with processing and recording deposits. Reconcile revenue received through various payment sources and systems. Research discrepancies and coordinate with appropriate SSC staff to resolve outstanding items. Bank & Account Reconciliations Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations. Review transactions for accuracy and identify discrepancies. Follow up on outstanding or unusual transactions as needed. Support month-end closing activities and ensure reconciliations are completed according to established timelines. Financial Reporting & Audit Support Assist the Finance team with preparation of monthly financial reports and supporting schedules. Provide documentation and reports needed for the annual financial audit. Assist with year-end financial processes and recordkeeping. Support tracking and documentation related to restricted funds, grants, programs, and other nonprofit accounting needs as requested. General Finance Support Partner with SSC staff to answer routine questions related to invoices, payments, reimbursements, and financial procedures. Assist with employee expense reimbursement processing. Help maintain strong internal financial controls and consistent finance procedures. Identify discrepancies, missing documentation, or process concerns and bring them to the attention of Finance leadership. Perform other bookkeeping and administrative finance responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications The ideal candidate has experience navigating multi-system environments and is able to actively monitor and integrate financial transactions across diverse systems (including CRM, ticketing, and expense management tools such as Opus, Charity Engine, Audience View, Ramp, CardPointe, as well as multiple vendor sites). 2+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or related financial experience preferred. Experience with accounting software required; experience with QuickBooks or similar systems strongly preferred. Experience with nonprofit accounting is preferred but not required. Strong understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger transactions. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage recurring deadlines and prioritize responsibilities independently. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information with discretion. Commitment to SSC's mission and to working collaboratively within a nonprofit arts and education environment. Success in This Role A successful Part-Time Bookkeeper at SSC will: Maintain accurate, timely, and well-organized financial records. Ensure bills, payments, deposits, and reconciliations are processed consistently and on schedule. Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies. Make financial information easy to locate and understand. Provide reliable support to Finance leadership and SSC staff. Bring a service-oriented, collaborative approach to financial administration while maintaining appropriate financial controls. Compensation & Schedule This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position anticipated to work approximately 10-15 hours per week . The specific schedule may be established collaboratively based on organizational needs and candidate availability.
Hourly Rate:
