We are seeking an experienced and dependable Accounting Specialist to join our team in Houston, Missouri. This is a full-time, onsite, hands-on position responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting activities of our roofing construction business. The Accounting Specialist will work independently across a broad range of accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, job costing, financial recordkeeping, and reporting. This individual will play an important role in ensuring financial information is accurate, organized, and maintained in a timely manner while supporting company leadership and the ongoing needs of the business. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to take ownership of their responsibilities with limited day-to-day oversight. Previous accounting experience within the roofing, construction, home improvement, or a related contractor-based industry is required. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Manage day-to-day accounting transactions and maintain accurate financial records within QuickBooks Handle accounts payable, including vendor invoices, supporting documentation, expense coding, and payment preparation Manage accounts receivable, including customer invoicing, payment application, outstanding balances, and collection efforts Perform bank, credit card, and other account reconciliations and research discrepancies as needed Maintain accurate general ledger activity and prepare or post journal entries as appropriate Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, reconciliations, and reporting Track project-related revenue, expenses, labor, materials, and other costs and maintain accurate job costing Maintain organized vendor, subcontractor, customer, and accounting records Support payroll-related accounting activities, reconciliations, and recordkeeping as needed Monitor outstanding receivables and communicate internally regarding past-due balances or payment issues Research accounting discrepancies and make or recommend appropriate corrections Prepare routine financial reports and accounting information for company leadership Track cash activity and maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing funds Maintain organized supporting documentation for accounting transactions Assist with year-end activities and provide requested documentation to outside accounting and tax professionals Communicate with vendors, customers, subcontractors, and internal team members regarding accounting-related matters Help ensure established accounting procedures and internal processes are consistently followed Identify opportunities to improve the accuracy, organization, and efficiency of accounting processes Maintain confidentiality of company, employee, customer, and financial information Assist with special accounting projects, reporting needs, and other related responsibilities as assigned Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is a plus, but not required
- Must have previous accounting experience within the roofing, construction, home improvement, or contractor-based industry
- Previous professional experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar financial role
- Experience independently handling multiple accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger activity
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, month-end reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping
- Experience with job costing and project-based accounting is highly preferred
- Familiarity with subcontractor invoicing, payments, and 1099 reporting
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and general proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
- Ability to research discrepancies, identify issues, and follow through to resolution
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and other team members
