POSITION PURPOSE

Provide high-quality instruction in welding and related skilled trades to prepare students for successful careers, postsecondary education, industry certifications, and continued technical training. Plan and deliver hands-on, competency-based instruction in a safe and supportive learning environment; develop students' technical knowledge, welding skills, employability skills, and understanding of industry standards; maintain appropriate equipment and facilities; and establish connections with local industry and workforce partners to ensure instruction reflects current workplace practices and opportunities.

CERTIFICATIONS

Career & Technical Education Teaching Certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in welding, metal fabrication, and related practices. Knowledge of occupational safety practices and the proper use, maintenance, and storage of welding equipment, tools, machinery, and materials. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and demonstrate hands-on skills to high school students with varying levels of knowledge and ability.

Maintains current knowledge of the welding industry and instructional methods. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Nine-month employee. May include an extended contract beyond the school year. Salary depends on education and experience, according to the approved salary schedule. Full-time employees are eligible for a benefit package as established by the board of education.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in a high school welding laboratory, classroom, and other CTE instructional environments. Regular exposure to welding fumes, smoke, gases, sparks, heat, dust, metal particles, noise, and odors associated with welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication, and related shop activities. Work may involve exposure to hot metal, sharp edges, machinery, tools, electrical equipment, compressed gases, and other potentially hazardous materials or conditions. Requires consistent adherence to established safety procedures, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment, ventilation systems, machinery safeguards, and hazardous-material handling procedures. May work in varying temperatures and conditions within instructional and shop environments. May occasionally work outside the regular classroom environment, including industry sites, job-shadowing locations, competitions, field trips, or other community/workforce settings. Work requires maintaining continuous awareness of student activities and equipment operation to identify and respond promptly to unsafe conditions. May require occasional work beyond the regular school day, including professional development, student activities, competitions, industry events, parent/community activities, and other school-related functions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while teaching and supervising students. Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, and maintain various physical positions while demonstrating welding and fabrication techniques or supervising students. Ability to lift, carry, move, and position tools, equipment, materials, and metal stock; occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Ability to safely handle welding equipment, hand tools, power tools, metal materials, compressed-gas cylinders, and related instructional equipment. Ability to use hands and fingers with sufficient dexterity to operate welding equipment, tools, machinery, computers, and other instructional equipment. Ability to perform close visual work necessary to inspect welds, read measurements and specifications, observe equipment operation, and demonstrate technical procedures. Ability to hear and communicate effectively in a noisy shop environment for purposes of instruction, supervision, and safety. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including a welding helmet, eye and face protection, gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection when required, and protective clothing. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and unsafe conditions in the instructional laboratory. Ability to safely perform the physical activities necessary to demonstrate welding, cutting, fabrication, and related occupational skills.
