Job Description
Watchtower Security is a growing company that provides fully managed video surveillance solutions to apartment communities across the country. For more than 20 years, we've partnered with property management companies to help create safer communities. We're looking for a Payroll & Accounts Payable Specialist to join our Finance team. This is a hands-on role that is split roughly 50% payroll and 50% accounts payable. You'll take ownership of our bi-weekly payroll process while also supporting the day-to-day accounts payable function. If you already have solid payroll experience and want to expand your accounting experience into accounts payable, this could be a great next step. You'll work closely with our Controller, Accounts Payable Manager, Human Resources, employees, vendors, and department leaders. What You'll Do Payroll - About 50% Own the bi-weekly payroll process for exempt and non-exempt employees. Review employee timecards for accuracy and completeness before payroll is processed. Process payroll adjustments, garnishments, benefit deductions, tax levies, commissions, and bonuses. Handle overtime calculations related to commissions and bonus payments for non-exempt employees. Work closely with HR on new hires, terminations, pay changes, and other employee updates. Serve as the go-to person for employee payroll questions and help resolve issues quickly and professionally. Help maintain multi-state payroll compliance, including tax withholding, sick leave requirements, and final paycheck rules. Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records. Accounts Payable - About 50% Receive, code, and route vendor invoices for approval. Help manage weekly and bi-weekly vendor payment runs through ACH, wire, and check. Match purchase orders to invoices and investigate discrepancies. Communicate with vendors and internal teams to resolve invoice or payment questions. Maintain vendor records and collect W-9s for new vendors. Assist with annual 1099 reporting. Reconcile accounts payable aging and help with AP-related month-end close activities. Support corporate credit card and employee expense processes as needed. Beyond the Day-to-Day We're also looking for someone who wants to help make our processes better. You'll have the opportunity to: Identify ways to simplify payroll and accounts payable processes. Reduce manual work and improve accuracy. Help strengthen financial controls and documentation. Support payroll and AP-related month-end entries. Participate in system improvements and process changes. Assist with annual audit requests. Cross-train in other areas of Finance and provide backup support when needed. What We're Looking For 2-5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience. Experience processing multi-state payroll. Strong attention to detail and the ability to catch discrepancies before they become larger problems. The ability to handle employee pay and financial information with complete confidentiality. Good problem-solving and organizational skills. Comfort managing recurring deadlines and multiple priorities. Working knowledge of basic accounting principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with employees, vendors, HR, Finance, and department leaders. An associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will also be considered.
