Job Description

Pay:

19.00/ hr for six months probation, $20.00/ hr after completion of probation. ($18.00/hr for training position if needed for six months prior to probation)

Special Information :

Missoula Correctional Services is a non-profit corporation. Mental demands are paramount due to the intensity of the workload. The work schedule will be five (5) days per week, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Meal breaks are optional and will be explained during the interview process.

Typical Duties (not all inclusive) : The Bookkeeper is responsible for the maintenance of the pre-release inmate accounts. The bookkeeper prepares bank deposits; posts all resident income transactions; issues approved checks to inmates; issues approved checks to outside parties on behalf of inmates; generates inmate account statements for review by residents and staff; balances accounts against check account registers; and reconciles monthly bank statements. The bookkeeper records room and board payments and conducts monthly "closing" procedures to insure all accounts are reconciled. The bookkeeper maintains all financial records associated with the resident accounts including receipt books, account ledgers, and checking statements. The bookkeeper provides information to auditors as approved by the Executive Director. The bookkeeper prepares confidential materials; performs data entry necessary for the maintenance of data base systems associated with the resident accounts; composes, completes, and submits to the Executive Director monthly statistical reports; establishes appropriate files in a manner which accommodates all personnel; maintains files in an accurate manner; answers routine inquiries and questions from staff members and residents; informs the Administrative Assistant of supplies needed; purchases supplies as approved; programs the computer with new programs as approved. The bookkeeper maintains strict confidentiality regarding financial concerns of the corporation, staff, and residents and maintains professional standards.

Qualifications :

Must have knowledge of bookkeeping and office practices. Must possess sound communication and good writing skills and have strong math skills; must have the skill to operate a computer system, utilizing Windows and Microsoft Word, and word processor; must have the skill to type; must possess good organization skills. Must have the ability to work successfully with individuals; exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions; must possess the ability to handle conflict situations in a calm manner; must possess the ability to handle pressure and stress associated with dealing with offenders, deadlines, and a large work load; possess the ability to understand and interpret oral and written instructions; possess knowledge of filing procedures, business English, and spelling.

Education and Experience :

High School Diploma and four years experience in performing bookkeeping and office duties, including use of a computer/word process system with Windows and Microsoft Word programs. A combination of education and experience may be considered. An applicant that does not meet the experience required may be considered for a training position with a lesser salary.

Application and Selection Process :

Selection procedures to be used in evaluating applicants' qualifications may include, but are not limited to, an evaluation of the Application form; a structured interview; a written questionnaire; a performance test; a criminal record check; and reference checks.

•The successful candidate must pass a thorough criminal background investigation. The applicants must also be found to be insurable via a check with the Montana Motor Vehicle's Records Department. Upon offer of employment, the candidate will be required to take and pass a physical examination which demonstrates that the applicant is capable of performing the physical required duties of this position. The applicant will be required to take a TB test and sign a Non-Dissemination and Non-Solicitation Agreement.

Compensation :

This position's salary is a minimum of $ 37,440.00+ annually. Benefits include 10 working days of annual leave, and nine (9) days of holiday leave per year, medical insurance, and a retirement plan.

Immigration Reform and Control Act :

In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, if an employee is unable to provide the required document or documents within three days, he or she must at least produce (within three days) a receipt showing that he or she has applied for the document. The employee must produce the document itself within 21 days of the hire. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver's license or other picture I.D., a U.S.passport, or a green card.

$17.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
