Role Description The Bookkeeper role at Beaton Accounting is a remote, contract position focused on providing accurate and timely financial records for small business and individual clients. Day-to-day responsibilities include recording and categorizing financial transactions, posting journal entries, and reconciling bank and credit card accounts. The Bookkeeper will prepare basic financial statements, maintain general ledgers, and ensure that accounting data is complete and up to date for tax and payroll processing. The role involves working within accounting software, updating client files, and collaborating with senior staff to identify discrepancies and resolve accounting issues. The Bookkeeper will also communicate with clients as needed to clarify information, request documentation, and support organized, compliant financial operations. Qualifications Strong bookkeeping skills, including accurate recording of transactions and maintenance of general ledgers. Ability to prepare and review basic financial statements and support financial reporting activities. Proficiency with accounting software (such as QuickBooks or similar platforms) and comfort working in cloud-based systems. Knowledge of finance and accounting principles, including experience posting and reviewing journal entries. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple client accounts remotely. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a client-focused, professional approach. Prior experience in bookkeeping or accounting for small businesses; experience with payroll and tax processes is an advantage. Relevant education in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
