Job Description

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Construction Accounting & Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our accounting team. This role will be responsible for managing the full accounts receivable and collections process, construction billing, AIA progress billings, job costing, and monitoring project profitability. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of hands-on construction accounting experience , including strong AIA billing and collections experience . This is not an entry-level accounting position . This position works closely with our Accounts Payable department and project management team and reports directly to the Controller. Key Responsibilities Manage the full accounts receivable process from billing through collection Prepare and submit AIA progress billings and required supporting documentation Actively manage collections and follow up on past-due accounts Communicate with customers regarding payment status and outstanding balances Research and resolve billing discrepancies and payment issues Track and manage retainage Prepare lien waivers, releases, and other construction-related payment documentation Maintain customer billing requirements, including contracts, purchase orders, change orders, and supporting documents Work with Project Managers to ensure billings are accurate, complete, and submitted on time Maintain accurate job cost records and prepare project profitability reports Track project costs, billings, committed costs, and revenue Monitor project profitability and margins throughout the life of each project Identify job cost discrepancies, unusual cost activity, and potential profitability concerns Assist the Controller and Project Management team with job profitability reporting and analysis Coordinate with Accounts Payable to ensure costs are properly coded and assigned to the correct jobs Apply and post customer payments accurately Assist with month-end closing and A/R reconciliation Maintain accurate and organized accounting records Required Qualifications 3-5 years of construction accounting experience AIA billing experience required Strong collections experience Experience with job costing and job profitability tracking Understanding of construction contracts, change orders, retainage, and progress billing Strong understanding of accounts receivable and general accounting principles Proficiency with Microsoft Excel Experience with construction accounting or ERP software Strong attention to detail and accuracy Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple projects, customers, and deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Comfortable making collection calls and professionally pursuing outstanding payments Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, customers, vendors, and accounting team members What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who takes ownership of the A/R and billing process rather than simply processing transactions. The right person understands that construction billing and collections require consistent follow-up with customers and internal project teams. You should be comfortable identifying problems, researching discrepancies, following through until issues are resolved, and keeping the Controller informed of collection and job profitability concerns. Accuracy is important, but so are urgency, accountability, and follow-through.
Pay:
$70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
