Job Description

The Town of Cortlandville is seeking applicants for the position of Bookkeeper to the Supervisor. This is a full-time position, reporting directly to the Town Supervisor, providing critical fiscal and administrative support. It carries with it a generous fringe benefits package, including the NYS Employees Retirement System, health, dental, vision benefits; 16 days paid holidays per year and vacation, sick leave and personal time.
Duties and Responsibilities:
 Accurately maintain all financial records for the Town  Act in a comptroller capacity under the direction of the Town Supervisor  Input budget information into municipal budget software  Balance and reconcile town bank accounts; establish appropriate accounts and ledgers  Monitor budget/spending activity for all departments, providing that information to the Supervisor  Consolidate incoming cash and checks from various sources - deposit same and maintain accurate records  Prepare vouchers for payments, print checks, record pertinent information  Work with other team members to ensure fixed asset recordkeeping within the town is accurate  Prepare, print and distribute financial records for the county, state, and federal governments  Act as the human resources administrator for the Town, performing a variety of human resource functions in support of the Town operations, including, but not limited to, wage/salary program, personnel file maintenance, liaison with county civil service department, facilitating payment of employee and retiree insurance payments, participating in onboarding activities, and serving as liaison with the town insurance carrier providers  Process 1099 forms  Assists with verifying and maintaining accurate debt statements  Complete year end processing and file annual update document (AUD)  Prepare a wide variety of reports as needed including monthly employee retirement system report, overtime reports, earnings reports, and salary reports  Interact with the Town Supervisor, department heads, board members and others providing information and reports as requested Serve as a resource to staff regarding questions of Town policy and information in the employee handbook  Attend a variety of meetings as needed including budget planning sessions, staff meetings, etc.  Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
 An associate's degree in accounting, business or finance; bachelor's degree strongly preferred  Two-three years proven, successful experience in accounting or finance including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, accounts payable and/or receivables and month end close process  Experience overseeing or managing payroll/human resources functions  Competence in using financial software  Proficiency with all facets of Microsoft office suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint  Excellent communication skills - ability to read, write and communicate using the English language  Excellent organizational skills  Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team  Ability to juggle multiple, competing priorities  Ability to work successfully with a wide range of diversity within the organization and community

Salary:
$60,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
Schedule:
35-hour workweek
Physical Job Requirements:
Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time Occasional lifting of office equipment and supplies up to 20 lbs.
