This position supports the accounting and financial operations of our property management company and multifamily real estate portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong general accounting and bookkeeping background, with property management, multifamily, or real estate accounting experience preferred. This position requires someone who is comfortable working across multiple properties and entities and understands the importance of accurate property-level accounting. Roles and Responsibilities General Accounting Perform bank and account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies. Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities. Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation. Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and financial analyses as requested by management. Ensure compliance with internal controls and established accounting procedures. Maintain and update vendor database. Assist with accounting and reporting across multiple properties and ownership entities. Review property-level transactions to ensure income and expenses are recorded accurately. Work with property management staff to research and resolve accounting discrepancies. Assist with tenant ledger, security deposit, rent payment, and other property-related accounting reconciliations. Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives within the Accounting Department. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Accounts Payable Process vendor invoices accurately and timely. Ensure invoices are coded to the correct property, entity, and expense account. Collaborate across departments and with property managers to research and resolve invoice discrepancies and payment issues. Maintain vendor records and respond to vendor inquiries. Prepare weekly check runs, electronic payments, and other disbursements. Reconcile vendor statements and outstanding balances. Ensure proper coding, approvals, and supporting documentation are obtained in accordance with company policies. Assist with tracking property-specific expenses and vendor activity. Accounts Receivable / Property Accounting Support invoicing, payment application, and customer setup. Assist with the review and reconciliation of tenant and resident ledgers. Assist with rent payment research, credits, adjustments, and account discrepancies. Assist with security deposit accounting and reconciliations. Work with property management staff to research outstanding balances and account discrepancies. Maintain accurate documentation supporting property and resident account activity. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Previous bookkeeping, accounting, accounts payable, or similar financial experience. Property management, multifamily, or real estate accounting experience preferred. Demonstrated experience performing bank reconciliations and researching reconciling items. Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook. Experience working with property management/accounting software is a plus. Ability to accurately work across multiple properties, entities, and bank accounts. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information. Team-oriented with a proactive mindset. Ability to recognize discrepancies, research issues, and follow through until they are resolved.
