FUNCTION:
The Finance Assistant is directly responsible to the Minister Administration for the efficient administration of the financial functions of the Church so that the Mission and Ministry of FUMC will be most fully served and advanced.
STATUS:
Full time, Non-Exempt
JOBDUTIES
1.
General Duties & Requirements:
Manage designated financial tasks of the church in partnership with the Minister Administration, pastors, professional staff, support staff, boards and committees. 2. Contribution Management & Miscellaneous Receipts a) Perform the collection, processing, depositing and recording of all church funds in accordance with established accounting principles and policies of the church. b) Record and maintain accurate contribution records, including the preparation and distribution of monthly and year-end giving statements. Also secure and record member giving cards, maintaining confidentiality of giving records. c) Answer questions regarding contributions. d) Maintain recordkeeping of deposit records, contribution files and other receipt records in compliance with Church record retention guidelines. e) Attend Finance, Staff and other meetings as requested. 3. Personnel/Payroll a) Perform all payroll functions for salaried and hourly employees. b) Prepare quarterly 941 tax filing for the church according to IRSdefined deadlines. c) Stay current with FLSA and 403(b) regulations. d) Manage medical, dental, vision, LTD, Life and AD&D insurance coverages related to employees. e) Manage General Board of Pension program for eligible employees. f) Prepare annual W-2's for all staff g) Maintain employee payroll & personnel files on all paid church staff. Including the storage of former staff personnel files in compliance with Church record retention guidelines. 4. Accounts Payable a) Generate or finalize purchase orders in accounting system. b) Review for accuracy and enter manually prepared and vendor prepared invoices into the accounting system. c) Generate timely payment of invoices to vendors, members and staff. Advise staff of any problems or outstanding items. d) Prepare annual 1099's for vendors and contractors. e) Perform monthly reconciliation and replenishment of petty cash. f) Maintain recordkeeping of deposit records, contribution files and other receipt records in compliance with Church record retention guidelines. 5. Other Responsibilities a) Assist in the Annual Audit performed by outside Auditor. b) Notarize documents for Vinson Morris Children's Center and members of the staff and congregation. c) Supervise Memorial Acknowledgements prepared by volunteer, and then mails Acknowledgements. d) Notify the Senior Pastor when a congregational member needs special attention. e) Become familiar with the congregation. f) Any other duties as assigned by the Minister Administration. The above duties are not intended to be an inclusive list. The ministry at First United Methodist Churchis a team ministry.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in Business Administration or Finance. A minimum of three years successful experience in an accounting function with a Non-profit or Church Administration position may be substituted for formal education. • Proficiency in computer operating systems and church database software, particularly Shelby Systems. • Fiduciary integrity.
Pay:
$45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
