The ideal candidate will understand individual tax concepts, be comfortable reviewing client documents, and accurately enter information into professional tax preparation software. This position will primarily focus on preparing individual income tax returns. Experience with tax changes from the OBBBA, Sched. C, E, and F reporting, K-1/K-3 familiarity, and 1099-DA proficiency are expected. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare federal individual income tax returns, including Form 1040 involving Schedules C, E, and F, investment activity, digital asset transactions, and Forms 1099-DA.
- Review W-2s, 1099s, brokerage statements, retirement documents, K-1s, and other supporting tax documents.
- Identify and follow up on missing, incomplete, or inconsistent information needed to prepare accurate tax returns.
- Apply a working knowledge of common individual tax matters, including filing status, dependents, itemized deductions, retirement income, self-employment income, rental income, investments, and tax credits.
- Communicate professionally with clients and team members regarding tax questions, missing documents, and return status.
- Follow the firm's tax preparation, review, documentation, and confidentiality procedures.
- File Texas Franchise Tax Reports
- Use professional tax preparation and document-management software accurately and efficiently.
- Manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines during tax season.
- Research and apply current federal tax laws, including relevant provisions of the OBBBA. Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of individual income tax preparation and Form 1040.
- Previous individual tax preparation experience or relevant tax education. Minimum 2 years.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow established processes and procedures.
- Ability to identify missing or inconsistent information and follow established preparation and review procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential client information professionally.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
- Customer service orientation. Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of recent individual income tax preparation experience.
- Experience preparing Schedule A, Schedule C, Schedule D, Schedule E, and other common Form 1040 schedules.
- Experience with professional tax preparation software.
- Experience with UltraTax or SurePrep is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with business tax returns, bookkeeping, payroll reporting, or sales tax reporting is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience or tax training may be considered in place of a degree.
- Enrolled Agent or in testing process for the designation. Compensation and Benefits
